The new Sennebogen 880 Equilibrium crane moves into Shoreham Port.

30 July 2009

21st June 2009 - With London just 52 miles to the north and an easily accessible national road network, Shoreham Port's main activities are divided between its cargo handling interests, fishing and leisure communities as well as a thriving property portfolio.

Fast, efficient cargo handling and reliable distribution are the key elements to Shoreham's reputation for quality. Shoreham Port is a major UK port for aggregates, sawn timber, steel, oil, locally grown cereals and scrap metal.
As a trust port, Shoreham is committed to the continual investment in the quality of the facilities and the sustainability of the services for future generations.
Today, this investment continued as Shoreham Port officially received the keys to the latest addition to its development plans.

Supplied by Sennebogen  through UK and Ireland agent, Hassells of Stoke on Trent, the new 212 tonne Sennebogen 880 Equilibrium material handling crane is all part of the port’s ambitious plans for the future and the important role it plays in the local economy. In particular, the new Sennebogen 880 Equilibrium crane will be used to support the development of a new 12-acre steel processing facility by ParkerSteel, which will create 280 new jobs.

Capable of lifting 38 tonnes, with a reach of 24 metres, the new Sennebogen 880 Equilibrium crane will complement other new cranes recently installed by ParkerSteel.  The crane was delivered direct from Sennebogen’s manufacturing facility in Bavaria to the port on the back of twelve HGV’s.  Once on site, it took engineers seven days to build and commission.

Decades of experience and state-of-the-art computer simulation will guarantee the highest stability and durability of this low maintenance machine which also provides some impressive environmental benefits!  The compensation of the boom weight with the equilibrium means enormous energy savings for operations at Shoreham Port. With the costs per tonne / load clearly reduced this emphasises the exceptional efficiency of the 880 EQ which provides more movement for less consumption!

Driven by a huge 470kW – 640 HP Cat C15 direct injection, turbo charged engine the Sennebogen 880 Equilibrium is mounted on a heavy duty undercarriage and features a 2-circuit load sensing system for working functions and drive function.
A king size port cab, resiliently mounted, sound insulated with safety glass and oversized bottom window also offers the latest in operator comforts.

Erich Sennebogen junior, Managing Director of the crane manufacturer, travelled to Shoreham Port to officially handover the keys commented - “The new 880 D Series models are in a class of their own, with exceptional performance and machine reliability the 880 ensures maximum productivity and efficiency. Excellent operating and safety conditions with a reach up to 33 metres make the 880 series the first choice for extreme applications”.

Rod Johnstone – Chief Executive – SP, said: “Shoreham Port handles approximately two million tonnes of aggregates, sawn timber, steel, oil, locally-grown cereals and scrap metal cargo each year. It was, therefore, vitally important for us that we chose a reliable, finely engineered crane that could handle increasingly large and heavy lifts and service the needs of the port’s customer base. Sennebogen has over 50 years’ experience and is at the forefront of design and development and we know that the new crane will support our operations efficiently for many years to come.”
